All Kerala Cine Makeup Artists and Hairstylist Union is one of the most prominent cine organisations in the Malayalam film industry today. Over a century ago, the pioneers of the makeup industry proved their proficiency in creating magical transformations for traditional art forms of Kerala including Kathakali, Ottamthullal & Pulikali with their limited resources. The evolution of visual entertainment to theatrical plays and dramas was also backed by the gifted hands of makeup artists. Subsequently, the shift to the film industry had made the formation of a united workforce in the makeup industry inevitable.
The AKCMH union was established for the welfare of every makeup artist and hairstylist in the industry. The union aims to be the voice of all our members in the hour of need by balancing industrial progress and artist welfare. We aspire to contribute towards building an artist-friendly environment in this industry.
A makeup artist is someone who applies cosmetics to performers, actors in the case of the film industry. The union is concerned with film makeup artists though they work beyond that.
A hair stylist who cuts, arranges and styles the performer’s hair to suit their character’s look. Just like the makeup artists, they also tend to work beyond the film industry.
